The Problem with Suicide

Lithuania has the one of the highest rates of suicide in the world. Followed by Russia and other former Soviet states.

People arent sure, its suggested that the increased rates have come about in the transition from communism to capitalism. Which is curious, cause since then all the economic indicators are good.

The most common way to kill yourself in the country is with a firearm. In the city the most common way is by hanging. Women have a much more subtle way of doing it - usually by poisioning themselves.

Suicide accounts for 1.7% of all registered deaths in Australia.

Most common age is 30-34, then 35-44, then 45-54.

Men are four times more likely than women.

Admission to self-injury is about 10 times more common than suicide.
